MaraDNS can be compiled as a native Win32 binary which doesn't need the GPL CygWin library. A number of security features in MaraDNS had to be removed to make this program compile without needing CygWin's translation DLL. This program needs a version of mingw32 to compile. The version I compiled MaraDNS.exe on is MinGW-3.1.0-1 with MSys-1.0.9. To find mingw32: http://www.mingw.org/ This program also needs a version of pthreads-w32 to compile. The version I used to compile MaraDNS was pthreads-w32-2-8-0-release. Look here: http://sources.redhat.com/pthreads-win32/ The security features I had to remove to get this to compile in Windows include: * The chroot() functionality * The ability to drop root privileges * There doesn't appear to be a good source of random numbers in Windows The only programs that I have modified to compile in Windows are MaraDNS and Askmara. These are the programs most commonly used on a desktop machine; people who want all of MaraDNS to compile can use CygWin. No other MaraDNS program will compile on Win32 w/o CygWin.
