Deanrea Sykes is the Class of 2019 president. After his nomination for Mr. Hornet, Booker T. Newspaper interviewer and creative writer, Raven Arterberry, took time to ask him a few questions about the future he sees for himself after graduating and also what his the time he spent at BTW meant to him.
Raven: Where do you see yourself in 30 years?
Deanrea: I see myself being a lawyer and fighting for the LGBT+ community, women, and African Americans. I also see myself running for a political office.
R: How have you contributed to Booker T?
D: I’ve tried to get involved as much as I can and to learn as much as I can. I represent this school and have given my time.
R: What do you want to your legacy to be?
D: That I loved everyone, no matter what they looked like or how popular they were. Everyone is a person.
R: When you are an alumnus, how will you give back to your alma mater?
D: Turn in good publicity. I will be back at Booker T and I will be here for Booker T. If I’m famous, I will give BTW a shoutout. I’ll be connected and give back my time and money.
R: What advice do you have for underclassmen?

D: Get involved. Everything that you do matters. Be kind to everyone, because you never know what they are going through. Have a vision of what you want to do after high school. Have something to believe in, something that you’d give everything for.

R: What is your favorite hobby and why?
D: Reading. It’s like a movie I can create in my head.
R: What is a fun fact about yourself?
D: I have no middle name.
