#Mince and Dumplings

Serves 2. Takes 45+ mins - the longer the better.

  • 400g Mince
  • 100g flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 50g suet (or substitute with shortening)
  • Salt, pepper, and herbs
  • 50ml water (not too much!)
  • 1 carrot
  • Oregano, thyme, basil, etc.

  1. Fry up mince until brown

  2. Sprinkle in a few teaspoons flour, a beef stock cube, salt, and pepper

  3. Add hot water until mince is covered

  4. Cover and boil on low heat for as long as possible, stirring occasionally.

  5. Put flour, suet, and baking soda in mixing bowl.

  6. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs (suggestion: Oregano, Thyme, and Basil - generous amounts)

  7. Add water and mix until it makes a claggy dough. Don't use too much water.

  8. Chop and add the carrot, along with any other vegetables to taste

  9. Top up the water - don't skimp!

  10. Roll dough into small balls and add to stew.

  11. Boil for a further 15 mins. Remember to stir, and top up the water as it boils off.
